In a renewed offensive following an impressive performance in the
presidential debate, the US president Barack Obama slammed his
republican challenger Mitt Romney on foreign policy, arguing it would
get the country into wars with no plans to get out.
"You can choose to go back to a foreign policy that gets us into wars with no plan for getting out, or you can help move us forward and end the Afghan war responsibly and bring our troops home, and focus on the terrorists who were going to attack us," Obama said at a campaign speech in Iowa.
Obama said he has fulfilled the promises he made in 2008.
"Four years ago, I told you we'd end the war in Iraq -- and I did. I said we'd end the war in Afghanistan -- and we are. I said we'd focus on the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11 -- and we have, and Bin Laden is dead," Obama said.
The Vice President Joe Biden also attacked Romney's foreign policy.
"Romney's foreign policy is also no surprise, coming from a man who, when asked what is the greatest threat -- geopolitical threat to the United States, he said Russia. And his staff keeps using the words "Soviet Union." Whoa! These guys are kind of in a time warp. He said it was a mistake. This is the same man who said it was a mistake to leave Iraq. We should have left 30,000 combat troops there," Biden said, addressing another election rally in Colorado.
"He (Romney) criticised the president for saying that along with our 49 other allies we're ending the war in Afghanistan in 2014 and we are ending the war in Afghanistan, period. At first criticising us, then he said he supports it. When asked, will you guarantee you'll end it, he said, quote, "It depends." That's what he said. It depends on conditions on the ground," Biden said.
The Obama Campaign in a statement alleged that Romney has no plans for what he would do as Commander-in-Chief.
"He has no plan to end the war in Afghanistan and bring our troops home.In fact, Romney has said that announcing a withdrawal date from Afghanistan was President Obama's 'biggest mistake' there," spokesperson of the Obama Campaign national security team Marie Harf said.
"Governor Romney said it was "tragic" when the President brought all of our troops home from Iraq, and just last week said he would still have American troops serving there indefinitely without a strategy," she said.
"On Iran, he has admitted that the President's "crippling sanctions" are working to bring its economy to its knees, but has struggled to articulate what he'd do differently regarding Iran, except blustering about recklessly taking us to war.
And when Governor Romney was asked about Osama bin Laden, he said it "wasn't worth moving heaven and earth" to take out the terrorist leader. The American people deserve better in a Commander-in-Chief," Harf said.
